    [size=45]The Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, pointed out a major reason for the weakness of Internet service in Iraq, while confirming that the ministry is being subjected to a media campaign because of its efforts to break the monopoly of the Internet market.[/size]
    [size=45]Al-Yasiri said, “The reason for the weakness in the service is the presence of one company controlling the Internet in Iraq, which controls more than 80% of the market.”[/size]
    [size=45]In response to the media campaign against the ministry and its accusation of territorial division to provide Internet service on a sectarian basis, Al-Yasiri affirmed, “There is no such project, and what is being talked about is part of the media campaign against us because of our efforts to break the monopoly of this company.”[/size]
    [size=45]The Ministry of Communications had previously issued a statement warning that the ministry and its public companies are working in accordance with the powers granted to the federal government under the Constitution and applicable laws, and that they are implementing the plans and policies approved in the ministerial curriculum and the government program.[/size]
    [size=45]She added in her statement, “The steps that the Ministry is taking to improve Internet service and reduce its prices, including preventing one of the large companies from monopolizing the Internet market and creating competitive opportunities that contribute to achieving these goals, are being confronted by some quarters with an attack of media misinformation and playing on the string of abhorrent sectarianism, despite their knowledge that supplying... “Internet service depends on the geography of the governorates and the border crossings close to each governorate, as Internet capacities are transmitted from the various neighboring Iraqi countries through these ports using a fiber-optic network and submarine cables[/size]
