{Politics: Al-Furat News} Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, confirmed today, Monday, that some parts of the security agreement between Iran and Iraq have not yet been implemented, stressing that the relevant authorities are reviewing the report of the Iranian security delegation in this regard.
Kanaani said in his weekly press conference regarding the implementation of the security agreement between Iran and Iraq: The Iraqi government was supposed to address Iran’s concerns about terrorists in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, disarm them, and the forbidden opportunity for Baghdad ended on September 20.
He added: Based on our initial assessment, parts of this agreement have been implemented up to this point and some parts still remain. After the deadline passed, the Iranian Evaluation Committee traveled to Iraq to conduct a field assessment of the precise level of implementation of the agreement. They were received very well by the Iraqi authorities and we thank them for their cooperation.
Kanaani said: The detailed evaluation of the implementation of the agreement is postponed until the delegation’s report is reviewed. This investigation and the results of the field evaluation will be submitted to the official authorities in the country and will be discussed with the Iraqi authorities in this regard.
Regarding the visit of Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji to Tehran yesterday, Kanaani said: The officials of the Iraqi government and the Iraqi Kurdistan region are committed to the full implementation of the joint security agreement and consider themselves obligated to implement it. They said that a large part of the military headquarters of armed terrorists had been evacuated, disarmed, and transported deep into Iraqi territory. Part of the current headquarters has been completely destroyed and the remaining headquarters will be destroyed as well. This is followed up by continuous communication between the relevant authorities and stakeholders in the two countries and will continue until the agreement is implemented.
The Iranian diplomat said: Iran has repeatedly announced that it will not compromise with any party regarding the security of its borders and will pursue this issue until this agreement is fully implemented.
