The Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Council discussed, on Wednesday, the implementation of the axes of the national strategy to combat money laundering.
The bank’s media stated in a statement received by “Al-Ma’louma” that “The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq and Chairman of the Council for Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism, Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, chaired the regular session of the Council for Combating Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism.”
The Council reviewed "the report of the field visit of the international expert team for the mutual evaluation of the Republic of Iraq for the first stages (the technical commitment stage) and the (effectiveness) stage, as well as the position prior to this visit, which took place for the period from (6-23) / 20238."
The Council extended its thanks to “the National Coordinator and the concerned authorities who contributed to the success of the evaluation team’s field visit with the positive reports they submitted that reflect the extent of the Republic of Iraq’s commitment to implementing the standards of the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing system.”
He urged the concerned authorities to "continue this progress regarding the evaluation process during the discussion at the next general meeting of the Financial Action Task Force for the Middle East and North Africa region."
The Council discussed “implementing the themes of the national strategy to combat money laundering and terrorist financing for the years (2023-2027).”
The Council decided to "endorse the report of the follow-up committee on implementing the ban on virtual currencies, refer it to the relevant authorities, and publish it on the official website of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Office." Ended / 25 hours
