    Erbil – 964

The Kurdistan Regional Government decided to impose customs duties at border crossings in dinars only, not dollars, while confirming that those who violate the instructions will be punished.

    the details:

On September 20, the Kurdistan Regional Government sent Circular No. 227 to all border crossings requiring that all customs duties and taxes be collected in dinars.

Shakhwan Abu Bakr - Bashmakh Customs Director of the 964 network :

It is true that the circular was issued by the Ministry of Finance, but before that we were receiving amounts in dinars at all border crossings, with the exception of Ibrahim Khalil, who also received amounts in dollars.
If the prices are in dollars, our system is in Iraqi dinars, so we only accept the local currency. If a merchant gives us $1,000, the system reads 1.3 million dinars, so the person has to pay the fees in dinars.

A statement by the Kurdistan government translated by 964 Network:

According to the decision of the Council of Ministers, customs duties and taxes will be collected at border ports and customs points instead of dollars in dinars, and any party that does not comply with them will be punished.
It was stated in a letter issued by the Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers, No. 227 dated September 20, 2023: “Based on the provisions of Article 8 in the Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers Law No. 3 of 1992, based on the proposal of the Minister of Finance and Economy, it was decided to collect customs duties at border and customs ports.” In Iraqi dinars only.
[color:03e9=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)]All ministries and concerned authorities must adhere to the decision,” and if they violate it at border crossings and customs points, the violator faces penalties.
