    On Saturday, the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority announced the resumption of flights to Najaf International Airport, after they were halted for hours due to an “emergency situation.”
    A statement from the authority received by “Al-Iqtisad News” stated, “The return of Najaf Airport to service came a few hours after its closure,” noting that the head of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority supervised the return of the airport to service, accompanied by a specialized technical team that includes the director of the Air Safety Department, the director of air transport, and specialists from Airport Standards and Safety Department for field follow-up.
    She confirmed that rehabilitation and maintenance work had been carried out on the fractures that occurred at the beginning of the runway, in the presence of the technical and engineering staff, the airport director and all specialists, noting that maintenance work would be carried out in accordance with the controls and instructions of the Civil Aviation Authority as well as the regulations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and in accordance with Appendix 14.
    According to the statement, the authority recommended issuing a notice to pilots (NOTAM) that includes operating specifications for the airport until maintenance work is completed, indicating that these efforts that were made late at night come with the aim of preserving the safety of aircraft and the navigational lighting systems for the runway, in accordance with international specifications and standards, and serving the movement of passengers heading to the airport. And Najaf Governorate.  
    Yesterday, Friday, the Najaf International Airport administration announced that the airport would be closed to travelers “until further notice.”
    Airport Media Director, Hussein Halbous, told Shafaq News Agency, “Najaf Airport is undergoing (emergency) maintenance work on the runway for take-off and landing of aircraft, and flights will resume, after maintenance is completed.”
