Social researcher Salah Al-Majjami acknowledged today, Monday (October 30, 2023), that 70% of domestic violence is concentrated in popular alleys, while pointing out that poor services are part of the factors that lead to violence.

He added, “70% of domestic violence is recorded in popular alleys, especially those that suffer from very high population density rates,” pointing out that rents and their heavy rents, along with the presence of unemployment and poverty, are direct causes of the escalation in violence rates, but they remain within a specific area - the landlords - but the most prominent factor is It is the economic situation in general.
Al-Majjami pointed out, “Poor services are part of the factors that lead to domestic violence, but what is striking is that violence rates increase during the summer vacation, that is, with the density of individuals in the home,” stressing that 75% of violent incidents are not recorded in police stations due to societal restrictions that lead to overlooking the matter. “Ordering and accepting the mediation of family and relatives in most cases to solve any problem.”
On Wednesday (August 30, 2023), the Iraqi Human Rights Commission reviewed the reasons for the existence of specific months that record the highest rates of extortion and domestic violence in Iraq, while noting that popular alleys are the largest victim in recording cases.
Director of the Human Rights Commission in Diyala, Salah Mahdi, said in an interview with “Baghdad Al-Youm,” that “through a comprehensive reading of the statistics available to us in Diyala and the rest of the governorates, we see that the months (June-July-August) are the highest in the rates of recording incidents of electronic blackmail and domestic violence.” Together, they account for approximately 25% of the total accidents throughout the year.”
He added, “These months are a holiday for all levels of education, and people are more busy following communication and communication platforms, which means an increase in some falling into the “traps” of extortion, especially girls, accompanied by multiple service crises that are a factor in creating psychological tensions that serve as a spark in... Domestic violence".
Mahdi pointed out, “The popular alleys are the largest victim in rates of extortion and domestic violence in the three months, which can be described as ‘red’ by having the highest rates compared to the rest of the other areas.”
