Shafaq News/ On Sunday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken issued warnings to “pro-Iranian militias” against exploiting the Gaza war to attack American interests, while affirming his country’s continued security and political cooperation with the Iraqi government.

Blinken's statements came after his arrival in the capital, Baghdad, and the end of his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani.
Blinken told reporters, “We warn the pro-Iranian militias against exploiting the Gaza war to attack our interests, and we tell the allies and partners of the necessity of not expanding the conflict,” stressing at the same time, “We will continue security and political cooperation with Iraq.”
Blinken added: We do not want any confrontation with Iran, but we will take all measures to protect our forces and citizens, explaining that we are making our efforts to ensure that the conflict does not expand beyond Gaza.
The US Secretary of State revealed from Baghdad  that he had very good and frank talks with the Iraqi Prime Minister, and explained that he discussed the security situation with Iraqi officials.
He continued that Israel has its justifications for its refusal to agree to a ceasefire, stressing that it is engaged in reaching a humanitarian truce and delivering humanitarian aid.
He pointed out that there is a difference in views between the humanitarian truce and the ceasefire, stressing that we have achieved tangible progress towards reaching a humanitarian truce in Gaza.
He pointed out that the humanitarian truce might be a good opportunity to release civilian prisoners held by Hamas, explaining that the Palestinian Authority has an essential role in maintaining security and stability in the West Bank and Gaza.
He believed that the future of Gaza, the West Bank, and the prospective state depends on the Palestinian Authority.

A government source told Shafaq News Agency that, upon his arrival in Baghdad, Blinken entered into a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani to discuss developments and repercussions of the Gaza war and its impact on the region.

Later, the media office of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed, in a brief statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that the latter received US Secretary of State, Mr. Anthony Blinken.

Before arriving in Baghdad, Blinken had arrived earlier today in Ramallah and met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the war between Israel and Hamas.

Yesterday, the security official for the Hezbollah Brigades, Abu Ali Al-Askari, threatened that the visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Iraq “will be met with an unprecedented escalation,” and indicated that the Brigades would close the American embassy in a “private, non-peaceful” way.
Al-Askari explained on the “X” platform, “The visit of Anthony Blinken, the son of a Jew, America’s Secretary of State, and even the Zionist Minister of War, is not welcome in the Iraq of Ali and Hussein (peace be upon them), and if he comes, we will meet him with an unprecedented escalation.”
