On Sunday, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, called for accelerating the resumption of the export of the region’s oil to stop the losses resulting from its cessation, estimated at billions of dollars .
The Kurdistan government said in a statement seen by Al-Iqtisad News, “Barzani met with Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani and his accompanying delegation, which included the Undersecretary and Directors-General of the Ministry, and the Director-General of SOMO Company, after their arrival this morning in Erbil.” .
She added that the meeting took place during which “views were exchanged on procedures and steps related to the export of Kurdistan region’s oil .”
The Prime Minister of the Territory Government confirmed the readiness to resume the export of oil according to a joint understanding to meet the financial and technical requirements for the export process within the framework of constitutional principles and signed contracts and respect for the constitutional powers of all parties, in addition to finding solutions to guarantee the due expenses for the production and transportation of the Region’s oil, as the federal general budget has allocated the necessary allocations. In this regard ...
He pointed out that "the cessation of the export of the region's oil has caused losses estimated at billions of dollars to the public treasury, and export must be resumed as soon as possible," directing the Minister of Natural Resources in the region to "fully coordinate with the Federal Oil Ministry team, which is scheduled to remain in Erbil for several days. " .
For his part, Federal Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani expressed, “on behalf of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, the federal government’s desire to resume oil exports, by creating an appropriate common ground based on the constitution, as well as removing obstacles to the process. ”
The two sides decided, according to the statement, “The two ministries will continue discussions and deliberations regarding the legal, financial and technical details to provide solutions that lead to a common understanding in order to resume oil exports as quickly as possible, which plays a major role in maximizing the public revenues of the federal government and the region, in the public interest. ” .
Earlier today, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani expected to reach an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government on resuming oil exports within 3 days .
