    Baghdad - INA -
Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, confirmed that minorities are a source of strength for Iraq and an essential part of the fabric of society, while directing the development of the Diversity and Minority Protection Law at the beginning of the next legislative term.

The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, received at his residence, on Monday evening, (Carla Khijoyan), Director of Programs at the World Council of Churches in Switzerland, and the accompanying delegation. Which included (the director of the CAPNI Humanitarian Aid Organization in Iraq, and the director of the Ofoq Organization for Human Development in Iraq).”
He added, "During the meeting, the issue of diversity and peaceful coexistence among the components of society, and preserving the rights of minorities, were discussed, as Al-Mandalawi saw that they are an essential part of the fabric of society and the source of Iraq's strength throughout history, indicating that the constitution preserved their rights, and that the legislative authority contributed effectively to enacting Laws that strengthen their role, including the law for Yazidi women survivors and the rest of the components, and he directed the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee to prepare a draft law for diversity and protection of minorities for legislation at the beginning of the next legislative term.”
Al-Mandalawi stressed with the Council of Churches the necessity of taking a unified international position regarding the ongoing Zionist violation of international laws, and the importance of taking serious action to stop targeting civilians, hospitals, schools, and places of worship in the Gaza Strip, as well as bringing in aid, stopping displacement, and restoring basic services to alleviate the suffering and save the Palestinians from extermination.
