The Supreme Water Committee adopted a package of current and future decisions that focus on the efforts made to preserve water shares and not waste them, with the aim of employing them within the government plans prepared for that.
The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The Supreme Committee for Water and Land held meetings recently and took a package of decisions in this regard, the most important of which is organizing residential homes with special meters to measure the water consumed by the concerned authorities in the Ministry of Construction and Housing and public municipalities, to calculate the quantities. consumed within the wage payment bills, and setting the per capita share of water to 200 liters per day on average, noting that if it is increased, it will be met with double wages.
He added that the recommendations also included imposing relative irrigation fees on farmers for the purpose of investing them in maintaining irrigation projects in drainage at a high cost as service projects that will be implemented at the beginning of the year 2025, in addition to implementing other projects in the governorates by contractors, in addition to implementing cladding projects for river banks during the next year. Including the referral of a two-kilometre-long cladding project inside the city of Daghara.
Abdullah continued that the recommendations also include direct stone cladding near King Ghazi’s Palace in the Daghara district, with a length of 800 meters, in addition to cladding the Shatt al-Hilla for a distance of two kilometers, in addition to studying the stone cladding project for several areas located on the Tigris River in Baghdad, including the road parallel to the Tigris River. near Sinbad Road at the beginning of next year, and there are still other projects under study and referral in Baghdad to begin implementation during the next year.
Regarding future plans, he explained that they include increasing irrigation efficiency in all low agricultural fields, and the possibility of increasing water to 36 percent and an area of 60 percent using modern fixed and pivot irrigation systems to reduce water waste, in addition to cultivating larger areas of irrigated land, and changing irrigation systems using irrigation systems.
