The Ministry of Electricity in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced, on Friday, the suspension of electrical power production due to the outbreak of a fire in the “Kormor” gas solution in Sulaymaniyah Governorate as a result of it being subjected to a missile attack.[/size]
[size=45]The Ministry said in a statement today, “We draw the attention of participants in the national grid system that at 10:22 pm on January 25, 2025, due to the outbreak of a fire in the “Kormor” gas field, and in order to ensure the safety of employees and the field, the gas supply to all power stations was stopped. He added that the fire also caused a decrease in electricity production to more than 2,800 megawatts.[/size]
[size=45]The statement added that the fire brigades are currently working to control the situation, and when the situation returns to normal, electricity will return as it was.[/size]
[size=45]Yesterday evening, Thursday, a security source reported that the Kormor gas field in Chamchamal had been targeted, without specifying the damage.[/size]
[size=45]The source told our correspondent: “The Kormor gas field, in which the UAE company Dana Gas operates, was attacked and bombed, leading to a huge fire in the gas field, which is located in the Qadir Karam district in Chamchamal district in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.”[/size]
[size=45]The source added: “Fire and rescue vehicles rushed to the scene, and sirens were sounded at the gas facility.”[/size]
