    Baghdad today - Baghdad
An informed political source revealed today, Thursday (February 29, 2024), that a regional decree will soon be issued by the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, in the coming days, which includes setting a new date for the Kurdistan Parliament elections.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "a regional decree from Barzani will be issued in the coming days," suggesting that "it will most likely be issued next week and is related to setting a new date for the Kurdistan Parliament elections."
He added, "All data indicate that the President of the region will set next June 10 as the date for the Kurdistan Parliament elections, in light of the Independent Electoral Commission's need for time to complete the voter registration process and update the data."
On February 21, 2024, the Federal Supreme Court issued decisions regarding the Kurdistan Parliament elections law, and also decided to dissolve the High Commission for Elections and Referendums in the region.
The court also reduced the number of members of the Kurdistan Parliament to 100 members, and dissolved the Regional Elections Commission, replacing it with the Election Commission to manage the Kurdistan Region elections, provided that the Kurdistan Region is divided “into four regions” to hold the expected legislative elections for the Kurdistan Parliament.
The Federal Court said that its decisions “were issued unanimously by the members of the court, and that they are final and binding on everyone.”
It is noteworthy that the spokesman for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, Dilshad Shihab, announced, on Wednesday (January 31, 2024), that the Presidency will soon set a new date for holding the region’s parliament elections.
He said in a press conference that Regional President Nechirvan Barzani will soon announce a new date for holding elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament.
Shihab added, "The Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq had a number of demands from the federal government," pointing out that "Baghdad responded to all of those requests."
Shihab confirmed that the Kurdistan Region Presidency continues its meetings with the High Elections Commission in Iraq and responds to all its demands, pointing out that a new date will be set in the near future to hold the elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament.
Last August, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, issued a regional decree stipulating that elections for the Kurdistan Parliament be held in its sixth session on February 25, 2024, but the Federal Election Commission requested that the date be postponed for technical reasons.
