US sanctions on a network for smuggling sensitive technology to the Central Bank of Iran

[rtl]The US Treasury Department announced on Friday that it had imposed sanctions on a network of companies and individuals for facilitating the transfer of US technology from dozens of US institutions to Iranian entities, including the Central Bank of Iran.[/rtl]
[rtl]The sanctions are related to the “Information Services Company,” the technology arm of the Central Bank of Iran, according to a statement by the Ministry of the Treasury.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Ministry also imposed sanctions on a number of institutions suspected of being affiliated with an information services company, and on three individuals suspected of being linked to it, including Puri Mirdamadi, who holds dual Iranian and French citizenship, according to Agence France-Presse.[/rtl]
[rtl]Brian Nelson, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, said that the Iranian Central Bank “played an essential role” in providing financial support to the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Quds Force, the foreign arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, in a statement, that “the United States continues to use all available means to disrupt the Iranian regime’s illegal attempts to purchase sensitive American technology.”[/rtl]
[rtl]Treasury Department sanctions mean freezing any US assets linked to sanctioned individuals and entities, and prohibiting Americans from dealing with them.[/rtl]
