[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / The Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi, confirmed today, Wednesday, that preparations are underway to receive the 2024 marketing season and a wide campaign to enhance treasury capacities to accommodate the quantities expected to be marketed, which will begin on the first of next April.
He said in a statement that government support for the current agricultural season and directives to complete all requirements for the marketing season will have an impact on achieving self-sufficiency and strategic storage.
He pointed out that the Prime Minister is paying special attention to the current marketing season and directing it to be more successful than the previous season.
Al-Ghurairi pointed out that the General Company for Grain Trading, in line with government interest, has developed a plan to increase warehousing capacities throughout Iraq by maintaining warehouses, building new bunkers and storage yards, and modifying terraces, in addition to its future plan to build new silos over the next two years.
For his part, the General Manager of the Grain Company, Dr. Haider Al-Karaawi, confirmed that preparations for the 2024 marketing season began four months ago, the first of which was a meeting with the branch administrations and marketing sites to determine the needs, in addition to discussing solutions to some of the obstacles that occurred in the previous season.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Agriculture expects that the initial production volume of the wheat crop in the country for the current season will be six million tons, after abundant rains and the reliance of many farmers on modern irrigation methods, which contributed to increasing production./End 9[/rtl]
