    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Monday, the Parliamentary Health Committee revealed that there is a significant shortage in financial allocations to provide good health service, while indicating that the government spends $200 as part of the annual government spending per capita on the health service.
Committee Chairman Majid Shankali said, in an interview followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that “the volume of government spending in the health sector is very small. The Ministry of Health’s annual allocations amount to (8) billion dinars, and this amount is divided among more than (40) million people, meaning that it is for every A citizen ($200) and this is the value of annual government spending per capita.”
Shankali explained, "With the significant increase in the number of cancer patients, and the shortcomings in treatments for this disease, especially modern ones that cost a lot, and in light of the absence of the necessary allocations to provide them, these treatments have not entered the country until now."
A member of the Parliamentary Health Committee confirmed that “providing a good health service requires double the financial allocation, and for this reason the government has resorted to some solutions, including health insurance.”
He pointed out that "the number of staff in the Ministry of Health has reached approximately (600) thousand employees. Despite this, there is a shortage of medical staff, especially doctors and nursing staff, and the rest of the specialties are mostly increased. Therefore, there is a plan to increase the number of doctors and nurses, through the medical progression law and other measures." Steps to fill the vacancy with the aim of organizing work in the health sector.”
