Iraqi workers celebrate their International Day

The three presidencies, ministers and political leaders in the country congratulated; Yesterday, Wednesday, the “Workers of Iraq” celebrated the first of May, International Workers’ Day, and while demands escalated to legislate laws guaranteeing and preserving their rights; The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs announced an increase in the salaries of retired workers by 100,000 dinars, which will be voted on next week.
The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Gamal Rashid, said in a blog post on the (X) platform: “On this occasion, we stress the necessity of working to guarantee workers’ rights and approve the necessary legislation, as they are an essential pillar in achieving development and the path of construction and reconstruction, developing and diversifying productive sectors, and supporting investment and the private sector.”
In his congratulations to Iraqi workers, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani stressed, “The government’s commitment towards all Iraqi workers, men and women, to provide a work environment that preserves their dignity and guarantees their material and moral rights,” pointing out that “workers represent a supreme value in our country, in which service projects were launched.” Reconstruction and development will not stop, with the help of the Almighty God.”
As for the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, he affirmed in a statement on the occasion that “the House of Representatives supports the advancement of the public and private sectors and the encouragement of development in the country.” He also called on the government to “activate the laws guaranteeing the segment of workers,” demanding that “investment companies be obligated to employ local labor rates.” He expressed “the House of Representatives’ keenness to approve legislation that contributes to protecting working segments and raising their standard of living.”
For his part, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, announced an increase in the salaries of retired workers by 100,000 dinars, indicating that the decision to increase the salaries of retired workers will be voted on in the Cabinet session next week.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, said: “The Ministry, within its development plans, seeks to support the working class in Iraq, working in the public and private sectors, in a way that guarantees their rights and achieves better living conditions for them and their families, especially with regard to security.” "Social."
National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji congratulated the workers of Iraq on the occasion of their holiday, and said: “We are always proud of all the loyal hands that create life and sustain development.”
The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, said in a blog post: “Based on the importance of the role played by the workforce in Iraq in its public and private sectors, we reiterate the importance of supporting this segment and approving legislation that guarantees their rights.”
In turn, the leader of the "Shiite National Movement", Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr, affirmed that countries were built by workers, demanding that workers in Iraq be granted "all their legitimate rights, respect, educate them, and mobilize their morale."
For his part, the head of the Al-Hikma Movement, Mr. Ammar Al-Hakim, stressed in a statement on the occasion the need to oblige companies to employ Iraqi workers in large proportions, calling for supporting the local product and restarting the stopped factories.
The Secretary-General of the Asaib Ahl al-Haq Movement, Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, also congratulated the workers of Iraq on their holiday, while stressing the need to do justice to the segment of workers by legislating fair laws, providing opportunities, and enhancing the spirit of creative creativity at their hands.
The head of the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, called for the provision of a healthy and safe work environment, pointing out the importance of reviewing the wage scale for workers in a way that achieves justice and ensures a decent life for their families.
In addition, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Najm Al-Aqabi, stated in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “the new retirement and social security law has many advantages, including expanding the rule of inclusion in the provisions of the law, as the branch of retirement security and workers’ employment insurance was added.” Those who are not joined, adding service to workers in the government sector for the purpose of the bonus, including a retirement formula that guarantees them a retirement salary, and state support for workers and those included by paying 8 percent of wages and work allowances.”
Al-Aqabi explained, “The number of workers continuing to receive social security exceeded 300,000 workers, a number that can increase or decrease.”
On the other hand, the local government in the Holy Karbala Governorate announced on the occasion of Labor Day the allocation of residential plots of land to the workers segment.
For her part, Director of the Department of Retirement and Social Security for Workers at the Ministry of Labor, Kholoud Hiran Al-Jabri, told “Al-Sabah”: “After the approval of the Social Security Law for Workers, the Ministry began working to include the largest number of the working class, in addition to including the workers registered with it in the provisions of this law.” The Ministry has formed field teams to monitor and register workers and industrial projects, in addition to opening an electronic window for submission by employers and investment projects for the purpose of including their workers in this law. She stressed that “the Ministry is working to improve the situation of the working class.”
