The source in Britain held a special meeting with the former Iraqi Prime Minister, Dr. Iyad Allawi, in which he discussed a number of issues and files related to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, most notably President Masoud Barzani’s recent visit to the federal capital, Baghdad.
Regarding President Barzani’s visit to Baghdad and his meeting with leaders of political parties, Iyad Allawi said, “His visit expresses his will to find solutions to the pending issues in Iraq, not to stir up problems.”
Allawi pointed out that “President Barzani’s visit to Baghdad has largely unified the Iraqi position on the Kurdish issue, which is a positive thing.”
After his meetings with the leaders of the Iraqi political forces, the former Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed that he “spoke with President Barzani,” explaining that he “inquired about the progress of the meetings,” stressing that “President Barzani assured him of his comfort with them, which indicates his desire to find solutions, and this is evident in his calm nature.”
Allawi stressed that he "supports President Barzani and stands by his side," noting that "President Barzani knows this very well."
In another context of his speech, Iyad Allawi said: “I spoke with Pavel Talabani and told him that there are two leaders in Kurdistan, namely Masoud Barzani and Jalal Talabani, and I pointed out that Jalal Talabani died, and the Kurds only have Masoud Barzani left.”
He explained that he told Pavel Talabani: “If you do not pledge allegiance to Masoud Barzani, you will not succeed or move forward, and you will not be able to solve the problems,” stressing that President Barzani “represents the cream of Kurdistan.”
He pointed out that President Masoud Barzani “is flexible when necessary, and firm when necessary,” stressing that he “does not seek to stir up problems, but rather to find solutions.”
He stressed that President Barzani's visit to Baghdad "aims to solve internal problems in Iraq, in addition to finding solutions to regional issues."
Regarding his statement about the poor situation in Iraq and the possibility of the situation exploding at any moment, Allawi explained that “Iraq consists of major components, including Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites, Turkmen, Christians and others, and that all of these components suffer from dispersion and division, and the reason for this is the use of sectarian and religious quotas in managing government affairs,” noting that “this is the fundamental problem.”
He pointed out that "there are also other reasons for the continuation of problems in Iraq, such as not granting the Kurds their full rights," explaining that "in all his statements, he calls for a just solution to the Kurdish issue."
The former Iraqi Prime Minister said, “Iraqi politicians did not abide by the country’s constitution, and that they have no relation to the constitution,” noting that “there are points in the constitution that need to be amended, and there are other paragraphs that need to be interpreted.”
He pointed out that “Article 140 of the Constitution,” which relates to the Kurdish regions outside the administration of the Kurdistan Region, “has not been addressed yet,” stressing that President Barzani’s visit to Baghdad “aims to re-discuss Article 140.”
Regarding the hostility of some political forces in Baghdad towards the Kurdistan Region, Allawi explained that “this is due to miscalculation in the first place,” stressing that he “informed them that they must either deal with the Kurds as first-class citizens like the rest of the Iraqis, or leave them to act freely.”
He explained that “the Kurds are part of Iraq, and they are the only nation in the world that does not have a state, but at the same time they represent a present and influential force.”
