MP for Maysan Governorate Jassim Al-Alawi called on the government on Sunday to develop a strategic plan to build new dams to store water.
Al-Alawi told / Al-Maalouma / agency that "rainwater is wasted in the sea without benefiting from it, indicating that climate change is one of the main reasons for the drying up of the river, in addition to the scarcity of water from the upstream countries."
He added that "many rivers in Maysan Governorate have dried up due to the scarcity of water, noting that the drought has clearly affected livestock breeders,"
and explained that "the government is required to develop a strategic plan to build sufficient dams to store rainwater and benefit from it." End / 25 H
