The volume of the increase achieved in the strategic water reserve amounted to about 10 billion cubic metres.
The first deputy head of the Agriculture, Water and Marshlands Committee in the House of Representatives, Zozan Koger, told “Al-Sabah”: The amount of rain and snow that fell on most of the regions of Iraq, including the Kurdistan region, led to feeding the rivers well and increasing the strategic water storage by about 10 billion cubic meters in the dams, noting that This increase is good and will be enough for next summer. She pointed out that the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, recently visited the committee and discussed how to benefit from the flood waves, torrents, and amounts of rain that fed the rivers, indicating that the committee proposed some projects that could be implemented by the Ministry of Resources during the rainy seasons, the places proposed for their implementation, and the amounts allocated for that, in addition to Quantities of water feeding the marshes due to their suffering during previous seasons from drought, water pollution problems, and others. Cougar pointed out that the meeting touched on the issue of removing encroachments on the rivers in order to nourish them well and ensure equitable access of water to all regions, explaining that the ministry reviewed the measures it had taken fully and well after the rains and torrential rains that contributed to good nourishment. She stressed that the Ministry of Resources needs real support from the government to be able to implement projects that can achieve the public interest of the country regarding water, in light of the presence of real efforts made in this aspect that contributed to solving the problems that occurred during previous seasons due to water scarcity.
