The Ministry of Interior will launch in the coming days the form for purchasing medium weapons from citizens, and while it announced that the number of them registered as possessions by citizens so far has reached (13) thousand, it confirmed that the Iraqi National Weapons Bank, which it opened, aims to control the movement of weapons inside the country, especially stolen ones, in addition to allocating an amount of (16) billion dinars to purchase weapons from citizens.

The Secretary and Rapporteur of the Permanent Committee for Regulating and Confining Weapons in the Hands of the State, Major General Mansour Ali, said that the national policy for confining weapons included several stages, the first of which was registering citizens’ weapons, which began this year and ends on (13) of next December, and allows each head of a household, through submitting a special form, to possess one light weapon (pistol or machine gun).

He added that the application conditions are that the citizen must be of Iraqi nationality, (25) years old, psychologically and health-wise qualified, and have no criminal record. The application is submitted through the application, and the form is filled out with the citizen's information and data, along with giving his phone number. The form is then sent to one of the (697) registration centers throughout Iraq, excluding the region.

Ali continued that the citizen can track his transaction through the text messages he receives, after which a patrol will be sent from the police station near his home to verify the weapon and take the information and data directly by preparing a report. After that, a receipt is given to take the weapon and examine it in the forensic evidence, calling for the necessity of citizens' cooperation with the Permanent Committee for Regulating and Confining Weapons in the Hands of the State in this regard, stressing that the number of weapons that have been registered for the purpose of possession by citizens so far is (13) thousand.

He explained that in the coming days, the form for purchasing medium weapons from citizens will be launched, specifically for the (PKC) weapon, noting that the purchase prices have been set for valid and invalid weapons, which will be done through the window for purchasing weapons through the (UR) portal, specifying the number of weapons purchased from citizens at only three, revealing that the Permanent National Committee for Regulating and Confining Weapons in the State has allocated (16) billion dinars to purchase weapons from citizens.
He explained that the Iraqi National Weapons Bank, which was opened by the ministry, aims to control the movement of weapons and reach the intersections of weapons, especially those stolen during the terrorist attacks that some governorates were exposed to in the year (2014), noting that the bank has provided the possibility of tracking all weapons, accessing them and knowing their revenues, stressing that the bank has registered all weapons, whether they are for the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Intelligence Service, the National Security Service, the Popular Mobilization Forces, in addition to other security agencies.
