The Southern Gas Company announced, on Monday, the imminent signing of a contract with one of the companies to establish a platform for importing gas in the port of Faw to support the national network.
The company's technical assistant, Majid Muhammad Al-Shawaf, said in a statement issued by the company's media office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "In order to diversify the sources of supply, the federal government and the Ministry of Oil decided to establish a platform to import gas," indicating that "this platform can be used to export surplus gas."
Al-Shawaf added that "the company is in the process of preparing a contract with one of the companies to establish the platform with special tanks for storage in addition to a transmission pipeline with a capacity of 1,000 million standard cubic feet over a distance of up to 100 kilometers."
He explained that "the platform and tanks are not floating, but are being built on land and it is possible to receive ships with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters of gas, while the tanks have a capacity of 150,000 cubic meters for each tank," noting that "the storage will be for a period of ten days as a strategic storage that will supply the national network every day with (1,000) million standard cubic feet of dry gas."
He explained that "this project is sponsored by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Oil, and its Undersecretary for Gas Affairs, and under the supervision of the Southern Gas Company," noting that "it is hoped that the designs will be completed by the end of this year, 2024."[/size]
