Iran Starts $2.3bn Gas Pipeline to Iraq

    July 14, 2015
    By John Lee.
Iran has reportedly started construction on a new gas pipeline to Iraq, which will feed two power plants near Baghdad.
The line is an extension of Iran’s 6th cross-country gas pipeline, and will extend 590 kilometers and include five booster stations.
The Managing director of Iran’s Gas Engineering and Development Company, Alireza Gharibi, said the project will be completed within two years.
Iranian company Gostaresh Energy Pars will carry out the project in the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.
Some 620 kilometers of the 6th cross-country gas pipeline, extending from Assalouyeh to Ahwaz in southwest of Iran, has already come on stream.
Testing 100 kilometers of the previously built pipeline will be completed in the next month and will be ready to transfer gas to Iraq, he said.
During its first three years the pipeline is intended to export 4-7 million cubic meters of gas per day to Iraq, increasing to 25 million cubic meters per day over following five years.
