'That's pretty rare': Helena gets two record-breaking days of snowfall this week

Helena experienced two record-breaking days of snowfall this week.
As of Thursday Evening, Helena Regional Airport had reported 6 inches of snow since midnight, breaking that day's record of 5.6 inches set in 1979, said Jim Brusda, lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Great Falls.
On Monday, Dec. 12, Helena had a record snowfall of 5.8 inches, breaking a 1985 record of 5.7 inches, he said.
"That's pretty rare," to have two new records from two separate weather events in the same week, Brusda said.
As of Thursday, Helena recorded 15.8 inches of snow for December.
Cold weather was just moving intoGreat Falls Thursday afternoon. Helena’s high temperature Thursday was 15 at 8:43 a.m., but subzero temperatures and windchills were headed toward Helena.
“For the next 36 hours temperatures will fall,” Brusda said Thursday evening. We’re expecting a temperature of 4 below, with a high of 2 below.”

    “By 5 p.m. (Friday), we’re forecasting a temperature of 11 below.

“By Saturday morning the official forecast has 23 below for Helena.
“There is a windchill advisory through noon on Saturday. Windchills of 25 to 35 below will be possible. Possibly as low as 40 below on Saturday morning because air temperature itself will be around 23 below.”
