    Two American sailors, themselves holding their 12 brothers and sisters in their home in a small town in California, shackling them with chains and shackles without food and in grim conditions until the police found them.

    State police said they found the 12 brothers, aged between two and 29, in their home, hot and starving and some were chainsawed, adding that they had arrested the parents and charged them with torture and endangering the lives of children.

    Sharif's office in the southeast of Los Angeles said another sister, as well as her 12-year-old brother, who contacted the police to report the suffering after fleeing the house, contacted a mobile phone she had found at home.

    The 17-year-old girl was "shabby and looked as if she was only 10 years old and confirmed that her brothers and sisters were being held by her parents inside the house and that some of them were tied with chains and shackles," the office said in a statement.

    David Turbin, 57, and his wife, Louise-Anna, 49, found a number of children "chained to their beds in a dark darkness and smelly, Malnutrition and very hot ".

    The police initially thought that all the brothers and sisters were minors, but later discovered that seven of them were adults between the ages of 18 and 29, and that the remaining six, including the girl who had contacted the police, were minors and the youngest was a girl under two.

    Police said that when questioned, the parents did not justify why they detained their children and why some of them were chained to their beds.

    Child protection services opened an investigation into the incident, while the judge charged the parents with a financial guarantee of release of $ 9 million each.

    According to local media, the father is the director of a private school in the city opened in 2011 and police published the image of parents after their arrest.

    Local media reprinted pictures of one of the parents wearing wedding dresses and surrounded by their 13 children (three boys and 10 girls) who the police said were all thought to be the "biological sons" of Turbine and his wife.

    Another picture shows the couple on the same occasion surrounded by their children and in front of them a man dressed in Elvis Presley costume and a microphone, suggesting that the wedding took place in Las Vegas where a wedding ceremony is held.
