Iraq ranked 11th among the most failed states in the world

Shafaq News / A joint report prepared by Fund for Peace and U.S. Foreign Policy magazine showed that Iraq was ranked 11 in the failed state index for 2013.

 “Somalia occupied for the eighth consecutive year the fore in the Failed States Index, followed by the Democratic Republic of the Congo,”The report of the two institutions, briefed by “Shafaq News” said.

Sudan was ranked the third in the world, then South Sudan in fourth place, while Chad came in the fifth place, Yemen came as the sixth, Afghanistan, Haiti then African Republic of Zimbaboi

Iraq was ranked 11th globally, after it occupied the ninth rank in the past two years on the world

The worst ranking was obtained by Iraq which is the second in the world in 2007

The report shows that countries such as Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Libya are better from Iraq in failure indicators, although it is suffering from internal strife

2013 index includes 178 countries were classified and given a rank by depending on 12 main socially, economically and politically standard, in addition to more than 100 other secondary criteria

Each indicator is based on an analysis of millions of available documents, data and analysts, No. 178 means that the state is the least and the most stable failure while No. 1 is the most failure

The report added that “Finland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Iceland, Ireland, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Austria and Germany are the last fourteen failure states and the most stable in the world”.

Since 2005 "Foreign Policy" magazine has published its annualscaleof failed states, which is the result of a joint effort between the magazine and the Fund for Peace, as it arranges 60 main failed state as Somalia has occupied the index list since several years

The report defines, a failed state, as a state that cannot control its territory that usually resort to force, and its government fail in making decisions, in addition to their inability to provide services to its people and witness high rates of corruption and crime

On the other hand according to a poll conducted by Transparency International Center showed that corruption has worsened in most Arab countries since the Arab Spring uprisings in 2011, especially in Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen, as the anger at corruption of its official was a major cause of its start.

The report shows that “the countries of Iraq, Lebanon and Morocco are witnessing a growing resentment although it has not witness revolutions, but the Arab political spring rose tensions in it."
