Iraqi marshes: neglect of tourism and investments

Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Nearly one year passed since the approval of the UNESCO to enlist the
Iraqi mashes within the international heritage, which was regarded a success for Iraq, but this sector is still suffering weakness in tourism and investments.
Iraqi Parliamentary Tourism Commission called the government to exert more efforts to make the area a "real economic force that will provide the national budget with more revenues", not only "slogans".
Agricultural experts estimate that the economic production of the area may reach to more than 300 million dollars, with an average of fisheries production that will reach to about 1700 tons, with more than 81 types of birds.
They called to develop the infrastructure of the area, as well as encouraging investments that will provide thousands of work opportunities to the Iraqi youths.
Though the Iraqi Tourism Authority is responsible for developing tourism in this area, we find that the senior officials in there criticize the government for neglecting this sector.
Tourism sources believe that there are 40 tourism sites are available for investments, but the routine and corruption hindered such development.
