South Korea: the deployment of anti-missile defense system angers Beijing

The news agency Buratha 22 03/20/2017

Seoul filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization in the wake of China to impose restrictions on South Korean companies for publishing system "Thad" advanced anti-missile shield in the country. South Korea confirmed that only one of these missiles goal is to counter the launch of missiles from North Korea.

The South Korean trade minister said on Monday that Seoul filed a complaint to the World Trade Organization to impose restrictions on China's South Korean companies because of the deployment of US defensive anti-missile system in South Korea.

Joe Hyung-hwan and South Korean trade minister told parliament in response to questions about China's reaction to the deployment of the THAAD system in South Korea, "notified the WTO that it is unlikely that China violated some trade agreements."

Joe and added that the complaint presented last week after China imposed restrictions on South Korean companies in the sectors of tourism and marketing of goods.

According to South Korea and the United States that the only purpose of the THAAD system is a response to the launch of missiles from North Korea, but the deployment of such a system has angered China, which says that powerful radar for this system devices may violate its territory. Beijing also says Thad will not contribute anything to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula. China is the largest trading partner of South Korea led the dispute over Thad to a sharp decline in the number of Chinese tourists in the shopping districts of South Korea.

Chinese authorities have also closed down some 24 retail stores to a group of South Korean Lotte in the midst of the diplomatic row.

Beijing denies link these restrictions publish Thad, but the South Korean government has offered cheap loans and extended the deadline for existing debt to help companies that have been affected and has worked to diversify the commercial markets. And ascended MPs criticize what they say is not the government's bold response to the actions of China, which also included a freeze on South Korean television drama in addition to the District of Music and product operations.

But Seoul options appear limited. And failed attempts to hold direct talks between the finance ministers of China and South Korea during a meeting of the Group of Twenty in Germany at the weekend after Beijing refused to Seoul meeting request citing reasons of deadlines.
