Iraq plans to reach 15.000 M/W by summer season

Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi electricity ministry announced plans to increase power production by this summer to reach 15.000 M/W to minimize the shortages in electricity supply in the country.
Currently, Iraqi electricity production reached to 12.000 M/W, according to different estimates.
The electricity crisis dated back to 1990s due to UN sanctions and the destruction of electricity installations due to continued wars.
Ministerial sources reported that the Iraqi needs of electricity this summer will reach 21.000 M/Ws.
All Iraqi governments after 2003 failed to solve this problem despite spending billions of dollars, which case was attributed to the corruption in the country.
