Damages at Pier No. 1 due to collision in Basra
Basra/ Iraq TradeLink: Naval sources said here that Pier No. 1 was damaged due to the collision of a
gigantic vessel, which is estimated to carry two million tons of oil.
The sources reported that the collision took place due to bad weather in the area, as well as a technical failure of one of its towing boats.
The front of the gigantic ship collided with the pier that resulted in a cut at the forefront of the vessel and damages in the pier, but no human casualties were reported.
Basra port has four piers specialized for anchoring of gigantic oil vessels.
No name was given for the colliding vessel.
