    Russia will not allow any destructive geopolitical projects to pass through the UN Security Council, pointing out that there is an opportunity to turn Syria into a model of cooperation for a settlement, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vladimir Savronkov said.
    Savronkov called for a thorough investigation into the Khan Sheikhan incident, expressing surprise that French experts who had not even visited the site of the alleged attack "have come to the conclusion that Damascus is behind it" and asked "where do you know this from."
    Savronkov noted that such provocations in the town of Khan Sheikun strengthen the positions of parties seeking a military solution to the crisis in Syria.
    For his part, China's representative to the UN Security Council, Yu Jie, stressed that the only political solution to the crisis in Syria. "We hope that the Astana talks will maintain the cessation of hostilities in support of the Geneva talks," said Yu Jie. "The fight against terrorism is an important issue that contributes to resolving the crisis."
    "We call upon all parties to move forward to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria," said the Kazakh delegate to the UN Security Council. "The political track is the only solution to the crisis affecting the entire region ... Astana talks are necessary to ensure a cessation of hostilities."
