Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said on Tuesday that his Iraqi government is reserving a huge sum of millions of dollars in Iraq by a Qatari plane without the knowledge of the Iraqi authorities, just before the release of Qatari fishermen last week.
He told reporters at the government headquarters: «The Iraqi government is now reserving a huge amount of money estimated at millions of dollars entered Iraq by a Qatari plane without the knowledge of the government this amount and the destination to be delivered».
Abadi added that this money still exists in the Iraqi government and we want to understand about this amount that entered Iraq in an informal manner without the knowledge of the Iraqi Central Bank and the Iraqi authorities.
"The Iraqi government is a national government and it is its responsibility to release the fishermen because they entered Iraq in an official manner and with the approval of the Iraqi authorities," he said. "The Iraqi government has stopped this deal and the money is being held by the Iraqi government."
On Friday, the Iraqi Interior Ministry announced the handover of the 26 Iraqi abductees in Iraq after more than a year of kidnappings in the southern Iraqi city of Samawah.
No details were given about the hijacker and the mechanism for the arrival of Qatari fishermen to the Iraqi Interior Ministry.
Informed sources revealed that the Qatari fishermen released belong to the Qatari Emiri family.
The sources, who were not identified, told «Alsumaria News», that «Qatari fishermen were released, under an agreement that freed the elements of a political party held by an armed Syrian faction and opponents of the regime».
The Qataris were part of a fishing group in Iraq and were kidnapped in December 2015 by a convoy of 100 gunmen in the desert near the Saudi border.
