Third, Iraq as the most countries dead because of armed conflicts

    (Reuters) -

The International Institute for Strategic Studies said in a report published on Tuesday that Mexico came in second place after Syria in terms of the number of deaths due to the armed conflict between government forces and criminal gangs in the country, while resolving Iraq's third.

The Institute revealed that in 2016 alone witnessed the death of about 23 thousand people during the Mexican police struggle with criminal gangs, which is almost half the number killed in Syria, according to the report, which said that the death toll from Syria in 2016 amounted to about 50 thousand people.

The institute said a research organization based in London, in an annual report entitled "Survey of armed conflict", the situation in Mexico has not received attention from the media as opposed to what happened with Syria.

The report pointed out that it was recorded 157 thousand deaths in the past year in the world in 2016, compared to 167 thousand deaths in 2015.

The following are both Syria and Mexico in the list of the largest numbers of dead in an armed conflict, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Turkey and South Sudan and Nigeria.

The John Chipman, Director General of the Institute, according to the German news agency, that "the death toll in the conflict of Mexico beyond the outcome of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Somalia."

He added that "this is more surprising, because most of the victims of this conflict almost died as a result of small arms," he continued: "The conflict in Mexico do not use artillery or tanks or combat aviation."
