Iran's contract with Total to develop the gas field involving Qatar

Iran announced that it was concluding an agreement with Total, the French energy giant industry, worth about $ 5 billion to develop the offshore gas field in the Gulf.

This is the largest economic agreement held by Iran with a Western company since the lifting of the majority of economic sanctions that were imposed on it in 2016.

Iranian Oil Ministry officials said that Total will receive a stake of 50.1 percent under the development of South Pars gas field agreement. It will be the share of China's CNPC company agreed 30 percent, while the share of the Iranian company, Petrobras is 19.9 percent. Total was planning to sign the agreement several months ago, but decided to wait to see whether the US president Donald Trump administration would impose sanctions on Iran.

Work began in the field, jointly owned by Qatar with Iran, during the nineties of the twentieth century.

Total was one of the largest foreign investors in Iran before the imposition of international sanctions on suspicion that its nuclear program involves military purposes. Last month, the company's head of Patrick Bojan indicated their willingness to inject an initial investment of one billion dollars in Iran's third-largest oil producer, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
