Al Jazeera: We will fight against Israel as our office is closed in Jerusalem

Arabic and International Friday, July 28, 2017

Qatar's Al-Jazeera has pledged to wage a legal battle against Israel if its prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, continues his plans to close the channel's office in Jerusalem and accuses him of backing a four-nation blockade on Qatar.

Netanyahu said on Wednesday he would try to close the office in Jerusalem, accusing it of inciting the latest violence.

Jerusalem is one of the most tense periods in years, with Palestinians protesting against Israeli security measures near al-Haram al-Sharif. Al Jazeera quoted the situation in direct and successive coverage.

The network said in a statement from Qatar: "The island confirms that it will follow developments of the matter, and take all appropriate legal and judicial procedures" if Israel continues to threaten.

The channel said Israel was biased to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, which cut diplomatic and trade ties with Doha and demanded the closure of the television network.

The statement said: "Al-Jazeera deplores these accusations and statements hostile (to Netanyahu), you see that it is part of the campaign against the network currently, which reached the limit of the demand to close completely by the countries of the embargo imposed on Qatar."

The four countries demand that the Qatari government sever ties with Iran and close a Turkish military base.
