The Palestinian Central Council suspends recognition of Israel

The Palestinian Central Council, the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), was called upon to "suspend recognition" of Israel until it recognized the state of Palestine on the 1967 borders
The meeting comes at its twenty-eighth session, a month after US President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The Central Council considered in its closing statement that "the American administration in this decision has lost its eligibility as a mediator and sponsor of the peace process, and will be a partner in this process only after the cancellation of President Trump's decision on Jerusalem."
For its part, the Hamas movement, which boycotted the meeting, said that the real test of the decisions of the Central Council is the commitment to implement them effectively on the ground and the necessary mechanisms for that.
"In the forefront of these mechanisms is the arrangement of the Palestinian house in accordance with the Cairo Agreement 2011 and addressing the requirements of the important stage in the history of the Palestinian cause and the conflict with the occupation," the movement said in a statement.
