Syrian peace talks, scheduled to be attended by two delegations representing the Syrian government and the opposition, will take place on Thursday and will continue for two days as "critical".
The United Nations special envoy to Syria, Stephane de Mistura, said that the Syrian peace talks, which are expected to begin today in Vienna, are taking place at a "very critical stage".
The UN envoy said both the Syrian government and the opposition would represent a "full delegation". "The negotiations are already going through a critical period and one of the indicators is that it will be held for two decisive days," said Yahya al-Aridi, a spokesman for the Supreme Commission for Negotiations.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Louis Laudrian said earlier that the Vienna talks would be a "last chance" to find a political solution and spoke of "the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Syria."
"Today there is no horizon for a political solution except the one that will be held under the auspices of the United Nations in Vienna with the participation of all actors, and I hope that an agenda for peace will be drawn up," he told the French National Assembly.
The Vienna talks come days before the Syrian national dialogue conference in Sochi, scheduled for 29 and 30 January, in the presence of representatives of the Syrian government and representatives of the opposition.
