    [ltr]US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the United States stands with Egypt in its fight against terrorism.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Tillerson told a joint news conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri on Monday that the two ministers discussed security concerns in the region, the human rights profile and the role of civil society in Egypt.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The US minister said Washington supports a transparent and credible electoral process in Egypt.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Shukri appreciated the American support for Egypt in its war on terrorism, noting that this support "is in the interest of the two countries."[/ltr]
    [ltr]He added that Cairo seeks to resolve conflicts in the region by peaceful means.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Tillerson began a tour of the Middle East with meetings with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri in Cairo and later with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, diplomatic sources said Monday.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Tillerson's visit comes a few weeks before the presidential election on March 26, in which Sisi is running for a new term.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Tillerson will travel to Kuwait, where he will participate in a ministerial meeting of the International Coalition against the organization "Da'ash" in Iraq and Syria. He will also visit Amman, where he meets with King Abdullah II and Beirut to meet with President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Saad Hariri.[/ltr]
