The loss of these large agricultural areas annually means the loss of large quantities of agricultural crops from domestic output and increased dependence on imported agricultural product, which carries the budget of the State of the financial burden is very large, Iraq, according to some estimates, imports more than 70 percent of the food needs of neighboring countries, which Increases the magnitude of the degradation of local agriculture. This has caused the economy to suffer heavy losses and the exposure of agricultural workers to unemployment, as well as livestock, resulting in overall economic losses suffered by Iraq, which requires work to stop these losses and the damage to the agricultural sector. In order to reduce the negative effects of desertification on the economy, an integrated plan should be put in place to ensure the preservation of agricultural wealth in Iraq and to stop the damage caused by the phenomenon of desertification and the loss of many agricultural areas. The fertile land that the country possesses enables it to address the causes of desertification and reduce its negative effects by planting more trees and shrubs and preserving existing ones to stop sand dunes from spreading to agricultural land, as well as to treat poor and harmful irrigation methods and encourage farmers to cultivate agricultural lands. By providing them with the necessary facilities such as seeds, agricultural machines, subsidized pesticides or soft loans that help them in their work and encourage the local agricultural product and support it in the competition of the foreign product, because this ensures the reduction of dependence on the products And the importation of financial losses that drain the state budget, as well as the country's food security for many risks due to excessive dependence on foreign agricultural materials and crops.
