The head of the Strategic Center for Human Rights, Fadhel Al-Gharawi, confirmed that Iraq needs to build 10,000 schools over the next five years to address the problem of student overcrowding in schools.
Al-Gharawi said in a statement that many schools still rely on the triple and quadruple shift system due to the lack of school buildings and their small size, pointing out “the presence of mud and caravan schools in some areas, with many of them being old.”
He stressed that “the right to education is one of the basic rights,” explaining that “the population census will determine the actual need for schools based on population density.”
Al-Gharawi praised “the progress made by the government through the establishment of 792 schools according to the Chinese contract with international specifications, calling on the government to accelerate the construction of 10,000 new schools to achieve a single system in schools and eliminate student overcrowding.”
