A number of criticisms have been made against the Russian government after a surprise decision by the country to organize the World Cup to raise the official retirement age to nearly the age of the death rate for men.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced on Thursday that the retirement age would be raised from 60 to 65 for men and 55 to 63 for women by 2034, the Independent newspaper reported.
The new retirement age would be one year less than the average life expectancy of a 66-year-old Russian man.
The organization predicted that 40 percent of men and 20 percent of women would not live to reach retirement age in Russia.
The Russian Labor Party denounced the decision in a statement: "The Union does not support this decision and announce the launch of a public campaign against him."
The Russian government hopes to raise the average age of men to 74 by 2034, which means, in its view, more benefit to citizens.
The new decision came during the "busy" the Russians watching their team in the opening match of the World Cup against Saudi Arabia on Thursday evening, according to the newspaper published.
