Tehran: 1.7 million visitors and tourists visit Iran annually
More than 1.7 million Iraqi visitors and tourists visit Iran every year, while more Iranians visit Iraq in return, the head of Iran's Hajj and Visit Committee Hamid Mohammadi said Wednesday.
"About 2.3 million Iranians visit Iraq every year without taking into account the millions of Iranian visitors who come to visit the 40s," Mohammadi told the Mehr news agency.
He added that "there is no agreement on the exchange of visitors between Iraqi and Iranian officials so far," noting that "a team was formed in coordination with the Iraqi Hajj Authority to reach an agreement on the management of issues of visitors and tourists in both countries."
"A city like Najaf has very poor infrastructure, so it is impossible to compare the quality of its hotels in Karbala. We know that, but we are trying to improve the situation for Iranian visitors," Mohammadi said.
