    The US Secretary of State said that Iran is the largest sponsor of terrorism in the world, stressing that Washington will respond immediately to any Iranian targeting of its interests.
    "We have told the Iranians that we will immediately respond to any attack from them or their agents on our interests," Pompeo said.
    It is noteworthy that US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, was confirmed in late August that the Strait of Hormuz is subject to international navigation, and Iran does not control it as it claims.
    He also stressed that the strait is an international corridor, noting that the United States will continue to work with allies in the region to ensure free international shipping and trade in international waters.
    The official IRNA news agency reported Friday that the air force was conducting exercises near the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
    The agency, which is the official spokesman for the Iranian government, said the maneuvers carry a warning message to the so-called enemies of Iran that they would face "a tough and quick response if it hits Iran."
    The United States envoy to the United Nations, Nicky Healy, said that "Tehran seeks to destabilize the countries of the region, and exploits religious slogans.
    The Iranian Revolutionary Guard had previously vowed to close the strait, asserting its control of the waterway in the Arabian Gulf, and pointed to the prevention of US troops from being in its waters. The Guards' Marine Commander, General Alireza Tengseiri, said Iran was monitoring both military and commercial vessels and did not rule out the closure of the strait to stop shipping operations across the Gulf.
    The exercises are part of an annual review conducted by Tehran on the anniversary of the start of the Iran-Iraq war, which began in 1980 and lasted eight years, but coincides this year with enormous political and economic pressure on Iran.
