A senior US diplomat said the stability of Iraq is now at the edge of a knife as a result of militia control.
"The continued Iranian influence on the Iraqi political and security situation, through the financing of the armed forces, is a major factor in destabilizing the security situation," diplomat Daniel Spikehard said in an article on The Hill newspaper.
Spikehard said the Iraqi government repeated the same mistakes it had made in the past and led to the emergence of a terrorist organization, which would make Iraq a breeding ground for sectarian violence again.
Speckhard was previously the first deputy head of the US mission and NATO mission to Iraq.
