Over the past three years, more than $ 9 billion worth of cloth and clothing has been imported into Iraq, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in the Kurdistan region.
The statistics, based on data obtained from exporting countries, reveal that $ 5.883 billion worth of textiles and clothing has been imported over the past three years, and that more than 80 percent of these goods have gone to other cities in Iraq and Iran.
According to the statistics that Iraq imported in the same period worth $ 9.092 billion of clothing and fabrics, and that 64% of these goods ($ 5.883 billion) were imported through the ports of the Kurdistan Region border.
Traders import clothing and textiles from 24 countries, but 84.5 percent come from China, Turkey, Iran, the UAE and India. In the three years, traders imported $ 4.418 billion worth of goods from China alone, $ 2.518 billion from Turkey, $ 977.103 million from Iran, $ 656.541 million from the UAE and $ 93.146 million from India.
