Sky News Arabia - Abu Dhabi

U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper has asked outgoing Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to take action to stop some military installations from being bombed by the international coalition.

This came during a telephone conversation between the officials, in which they discussed the continued cooperation between the two countries against terrorism, supporting the efforts of the joint forces to pursue the remnants of ISIS, and maintain security and stability throughout Iraq.

Mark Esper expressed concern that some facilities had been bombed, stressing the need to take action to "stop this".

For his part, Adel Abdel Mahdi also expressed concern about these developments and called for "serious efforts involving all to prevent escalation, which if a development threatens all parties."
