ARBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Designated Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Allawi announced that he would be presented during the days of his expected government formation, vowing to be "independent" and without the interference of the political parties.
Allawi said in a tweet on Twitter, "We are close to achieving a historic achievement, which is the completion of an independent cabinet cabinet of competent and impartial people without the intervention of any political party."
He added, "We will put the names of this booth this week, God willing, away from rumors and leaks, and we hope members of Parliament will respond and vote on it in order to start implementing the people's demands."
In front of Allawi, who was named prime minister after a difficult consensus reached by the political blocs, until the second of March next, to vote on it in Parliament, according to the constitution, knowing that the House of Representatives did not announce an extraordinary session during the parliamentary holiday that ends in the middle of next month.
Political sources talk about the difficulty of Allawi’s government obtaining confidence in a parliament beset by divisions.
The Sadrist movement had earlier threatened the Prime Minister to "bring it down" within three days in the event that he undertook the appointment of people belonging to political parties, especially from the Shiite factions competing with Sadr.
The announcement that the government will soon be formed comes at a time when demonstrations against the ruling authority in Iraq continue, which, after its launch in early October, caused the resignation of Adel Abdul Mahdi's government.
The demonstrators refuse to assign Allawi, the former minister, on the grounds that he is close to the ruling elite against which they protest and demand their departure. Since the beginning of the demonstrations, about 550 people, the vast majority of them young demonstrators, have been killed, while about three thousand have been injured.
On Friday evening, a demonstrator was killed near the main sit-in square in central Baghdad with a silencer when unknown assailants attacked his tent, security and medical sources told AFP on Saturday, while three other demonstrators were missing in separate areas of the capital.
The United Nations has accused armed groups of being behind the campaigns of assassination, kidnapping and threat against activists, in an attempt to suppress unprecedented movements in Iraq, which is ranked 16th on the list of the most corrupt countries in the world.
The Iraqi government human rights commission said last week that 2,700 activists have been arrested since the protests began, more than 300 of them are still in detention.
