The United States announced that it reserves the right to respond to any targeting against its interests in Iraq.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed, on his official page on "Twitter", yesterday evening, Monday, that his country will respond to any targeting of its interests or its bases in Iraq .
This statement came after repeated attacks in several Iraqi regions, especially the Kurdistan region, against the coalition and US forces during the past days.
For his part, Iran's former ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Danaei, fled, said that attacks against US forces will continue, criticizing the lack of real measures by the American side regarding the redeployment of US forces .
In an interview with the Iranian "Tasnim" agency, Danai Far said that the attacks against the American bases in the Kurdistan region are consistent with the attacks that take place in other places in the Iraqi territories .
The retired Iranian ambassador stressed the need for the Americans to leave Iraq, noting that the Iraqi parliament voted on this issue.
This comes at a time when the Iraqi government has conducted 3 rounds of strategic dialogue with the US administration, stressing the importance of cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism, as well as coordination in other files .
The government pledged to defend diplomatic headquarters and coalition forces, and condemned those attacks.
Since the fall of 2019, dozens of attacks have targeted Western military and diplomatic installations in the country.
On the fourth of this month, two missiles fell near the Balad air base, three days before the resumption of the "strategic dialogue" between Baghdad and the new US administration .
On the seventh of it, Washington agreed to withdraw its "combat" forces from Iraq, to keep its training mission for years, according to "Agence France-Presse "
In total, twenty attacks, with missiles or bombs, have targeted bases housing US military or US diplomatic headquarters, since US President Joe Biden's arrival at the White House in late January 2021.
