    Baghdad - INA - Wissam Al-Mulla
The Foreign Relations Committee confirmed today, Tuesday, that the bulldozing of the region's lands paves the way for building Turkish bases, while calling on the government to take an official position.
A member of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, Ala Talabani, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The bulldozing of lands and orchards by Turkey has both political and environmental aspects, and on both sides is a violation of the constitution and treaties and respect for good neighborliness," noting that "tons of timber that were cut will affect on the environment in the Kurdistan region and Iraq in illegal ways.
She pointed out that "there are eyewitnesses confirming that the tons of logs that are cut are taken to Turkey by trucks, and this is a clear violation of sovereignty," noting that "the information indicates that it is the beginning of building Turkish military bases."
She explained that "Turkey claims that its goal is to hunt down the Workers' Party (PKK), but in this way and without the approval of the Baghdad and the region's government, this is a violation of sovereignty," noting that "the razing of forests and orchards is a humanitarian crime."
And Talabani called "the federal government to take an official position," stressing that "its committee will issue a statement and a position on that."
On June 1, the Kurdistan Regional Government considered Turkey's cutting down of trees in the region's border areas as "unacceptable", while demanding respect for Iraqi lands.
