    The Minister of Justice reminds the Ambassador of Switzerland of the Security Council's decision regarding frozen Iraqi funds

    On Tuesday, Minister of Justice Salar Abdul Sattar discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum of cooperation between the Iraqi and Swiss Ministries of Justice, when he received the Swiss Ambassador to Baghdad Lucas Jacir, while the Iraqi ambassador reminded his Swiss counterpart of the Security Council's decision regarding frozen Iraqi funds.

    And the ministry said in a statement that “Nass” received a copy of it (June 8, 2021), that “the Minister of Justice, Judge Salar Abdul Sattar Muhammad, received in his official office on Tuesday, the Swiss ambassador to Iraq, Lucas Jacir, and during the meeting, ways to enhance joint cooperation between The two sides, especially in the possibility of signing a memorandum of cooperation between the Iraqi and Swiss ministries of justice, to exchange legal expertise and judicial notifications to develop the capacity of the ministry’s employees in the near future, in the presence of the Director General of the Department of Judicial Relations Ahmed Laibi Abdul Hussein and the Director General of the Real Estate Registration Department, Mr. Raad Saad Allah Ali and the Director General of the Six Legal Department, Hanan Munther Nassif  
    The statement added, "The minister called for the importance of serious cooperation between the two countries, which would contribute to strengthening frameworks and exchanging experiences, including the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the two parties in the near future to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples."  
    He continued, "The two sides also reviewed the discussion of releasing sums of money belonging to the Iraqi government with the Swiss government," calling at the same time "to lift the seizure of these funds and return them, knowing that there is a decision issued by the UN Security Council to release these sums." .  
    The statement indicated that "the participation of the Republic of Iraq in writing the national plan for human rights prepared by the ministry and the rest of the ministries represented in the National Committee for Writing Treaty Reports was discussed, which will be held in the ninth month of this year in Geneva."  
    For his part, the Swiss ambassador expressed his great thanks to the Minister for his great cooperation and warm reception, expressing his country's readiness to cooperate between the two parties, in the field of exchanging experiences and the possibility of signing a memorandum of cooperation between the two sides in the near future, according to the statement.
