{Economic: Al Furat News} A statistic revealed surprising numbers in the cost of bills paid by the Iraqi citizen in return for obtaining electrical energy.
According to sources based on a study by the International Energy Agency IEA and a report by the World Bank and the Financial Supervision Bureau, "the private generators deployed in residential neighborhoods supply 20% of the total consumption of homes, while they cost the Iraqi family 90% of the total they pay for the electricity bill, and this means The largest share of the revenues from selling electricity goes to private generators instead of the Ministry of Electricity, despite the fact that the Iraqi family takes more than 80% of its consumption from the national grid.
The sources pointed out that "the cost of the ampere specified by the state and subsidized by fuel is 7000 dinars for the normal ampere and 15,000-25,000 dinars for the so-called golden ampere, and when converted to kilowatt-hours, it represents one of the highest costs of electricity in the world, for example, 4 times what the German citizen pays The electric bill is one of the highest in Europe.
She explained, "If the price of one amp is 15,000 dinars, this translates to approximately $800 per megawatt-hour, which is the highest possible price for electricity in the world."
And she noted that "the estimated cost of electricity provided by private generators (officially registered and fuel-subsidized) exceeded $4 billion in 2018, which is 50% higher than what the Ministry of Electricity spent on expansion projects in production stations and networks expansion for the same year and according to the 2018 budget law."
